What is Modeling?

Waves engineers developed a proprietary technique to precisely model the characteristics of analog hardware gear. This includes every nuance of the hardware behavior, including the specific EQ curves, time constants, analog harmonic distortion characteristics, and more. There was no better console to kick off Waves’ modeling adventure than the SSL 4000 – the punchy, crispy, identifiable, high-end console sound heard on countless records over the past thirty years. In fact, when Waves released the SSL 4000 Collection, it was such a tectonic shift for in-the-box mixing that Digidesign decided to see if engineers could even distinguish between a mix done on a hardware SSL 4000 console and one done entirely in-the-box using the Waves SSL plug-ins. The SSL 4000 Collection comes with built-in presets from one of the world’s top mixers and an avid SSL user: Chris Lord-Alge.
